Some people simply sparkle wherever they go, and Liezl Pretorius is one of those people. Many in the Hermanus community know her as the energetic maths teacher at Generation School who has guided so many young minds, including both of my own children.

Liezl is a real firecracker of a personality. She is sparkly, playful, and full of fun. When I heard that she would soon be leaving Hermanus to join her husband in America, I felt that I wanted to bless her family with a small farewell gift. A family shoot felt like the perfect way to capture this chapter before their next adventure begins.

For their session we wandered through the old town part of Hermanus, stopping at places that held meaning for them. We popped into Black Medicine for coffee and croissants, walked through some of the quiet historic streets, and made our way down to the Old Harbour. Along the way we visited a few favourite little spots they chose themselves, and I was also able to show them a few corners of Hermanus they had never seen before.

The Pretorius family brought such a beautiful energy to the shoot. There was laughter, teasing, lots of playful moments and genuine connection. These are the kinds of moments that remind you how special family really is.

It felt a little like pressing pause before life turns the page. These images will always hold a piece of Hermanus. This town, its classrooms, streets and little cafés, have been such an important part of their story.

Liezl, your sparkle will be missed here. I have no doubt you will bring that same joy and energy wherever life takes you next.
